Birth of Venus

Bloodletting is a painting of a Montreal Blue Bonnets racehorse used for entertainment. Horse racing is notoriously cruel in that a horse’s only value lies in its ability to run, while they are subject to injury and put down once that happens. The animal is revered for its strength and speed but cast aside as an expendable being once it is no longer valuable as an object of entertainment.
